A Good ‘Old Fashioned’ Fun Day

 npvics

Our day out with a difference, we went to a Victorian Fun Day at Norton Priory in Cheshire. Norton Priory is known for fabulous family events centred around the Medieval Museum or the Victorian walled garden.

It was a warm but overcast day and probably all the better for it  as you can see by the photo above ‘The Victorians’ didn’t go in for shorts and T shirts. The scene was set in the stunning 18th Century Walled Garden, amongst ornamental borders, fruit gardens and rose walks.

Marquees were dotted around the large lawn and a selection of games including skittles, hoopla, skipping ropes and various throwing games were laid out, all of which our boys found great fun. The whole scene provided a relaxed atmosphere with a tea & cake stall and produce and plants from the garden.

The fun additions of Donkey rides and an old fashioned Fire Engine brought much enjoyment to the children and bringing Billy the prize Longhorn through the garden paths was an achievement in itself.

There was also something else that everyone thoroughly enjoyed, and much water was thrown amongst howls of laughter.

npstocks

Yes, dear parents ‘The Stocks’ even our boys took a turn, although it did seem that the Dads and Grand-dads  were the main targets.

It truly was a fun day, the children ran around freely, playing amongst the stalls and paths, all safely enclosed in the walled garden.

And NO dear parents, they do not hire out the stocks for childcare. (I checked before I left)

If you’re looking for a family day out check out Norton Priory, you can find them on  Facebook.

How have I never been to the Victorian day before, as it looks a lovely day out (and yes I know literally up the road for me too). Would love to put the teen in the stocks and give him a good soaking lol x
