A Boatyard, a barge and a baby.

#Project365  wk4  I day of photos a week.

This Sunday we have been at the boat club, yes more boat photo’s, but this boat is being renovated to become a new home for a family. It is a ‘wide beam’  Barge which is 10ft wide compared to the usual 7ft of a Narrowboat.

It doesn’t matter how old a Barge is, as long as the steel hull is sound it can be renovated into something beautiful, but this will be a long hard job.

The work is being done in the ‘Dry dock’  the boats are sailed in, the dock barrier is lowered, the canal is held back and the dock is drained.

This labour of love will become a home for the family working on it, glass roof panels will bring in lots of light and with a baby on the way the addition of double side doors will be essential for getting the pram on!

I look forward to seeing it finished and will update this post with a final photo.

A family home with a difference, would you live on a canal boat?

I love the look of barges they always remind me of Rosie & Jim. I would love to go on one. Not live on one though.

Wow that’s a big undertaking isn’t it! There are canals near here and we often walk along looking at all the boats, some of them look really kitted out and cosy and I think it must be a great life….. in the summer!!!

They can be cosy but yes, definitely more of a summer thing.
