Ex wives, family ties and goodbyes.

family ties

My husband was at a funeral, the funeral of his ex-wife from 30 years ago.

It was a very sad day for us all due to the complicated family ties that still bind us together.

10 years after they divorced their 17 year old daughter died in a road accident, that was over 20 years ago and the six week old son she left behind is now 21.

He stayed with his grandmother (the ex ) and her new husband and their two young children but spent weekends & holidays with us.

Technically that boy lost another Mother this week, the saddest part of this story was the request from her other children that she be buried with the daughter she lost.

My husband totally agreed (he has the deeds to the grave) and all week he has spoken with funeral directors, the Cemeteries Dept and groundsmen trying to prepare himself for the re-opening of his daughters grave.

Today itโ€™s all over, and I hope he can find solace in the fact his daughter is once again with the Mother that loved & missed her so much.

This must be such a difficult time for you all – but your husband’s enormous generous spirit and the love you have for him is clear in this beautifully written article.

Sending you all love and strength x

This is incredibly sad. I remember when we buried my Nan and we opened the family grave which had my Grandad and my Uncle in there, my Mum nearly threw herself in, because that’s where all her family were (apart from us) it’s so hard. You’ll be in my thoughts xx
