When I was snuggled up comfy in bed the other night listening to The Archers, yes I know, too much information, it suddenly dawned on me how we take such simple things for granted.
After watching the news of the flooding over christmas I thought about the people driven from their homes. Bundled off to bunk with friends or to a community place of warmth and safety but without their belongings and no idea of how soon they would again be tucked up cosy in their own beds.
In most of those cases they will be back in their homes after a massive clean up, but what if you had no home, what if you never had a cosy bed in the first place?
Over the next few winter months the YMCA will be holding their annual fundraising initiative called Sleep Easy.
Sleepers raise sponsorship by spending a night under cardboard whatever the temperature, it will be a challenging experience but all funds go to making a real difference in the lives of vulnerable young people.
Set up in 2010 the aim is simple: spend a night sleeping rough to highlight the issue of youth homelessness and raise vital funds to support the work of your local YMCA. Your money goes directly to the local YMCA projects; impacting your community and helping young people in your town build a future.
Sleep Easy has raised almost £1 million from people choosing to sleep rough for one night and being sponsored to do so. Your money goes directly to the local YMCA projects; impacting your community and helping young people in your town build a future.
If you would like to make a donation or if you’re hardy and healthy and would like to take part contact your local YMCA for further information.
